Prelim Evaluation


We managed are tasks day by day as we had to meet deadlines everyday in are planning we as a group had to meet up and prepare script and the storyboard before we started shooting are sequence. We didn’t have no problems in are time management as we met deadlines when we needed to as for planning stages. But while we was filming we came up a few problems one are group member wasn’t in so we had to film just with myself and other group member. The other issue was the location as we started before we started filming we knew what room we are going to film in but we didn’t book the room for that hour therefore we started filming in the room we done two shots and then we find out that the room is going to be used so we couldn’t finish are shots therefore we had to move rooms and retake are shots which took longer in order to produce the whole sequence. The other problem was that we was expecting to finish are sequence in an hour which we didn’t because of the problems I stated. The strengths in time management I think we was really organized in pre-production and the weakness we wasn’t organized in actual filming part.

Pre-production we planned are sequence firstly as a group gathering ideas of what we can do after we came up with a storyline we then produced a script after the script we produced the storyboard which helped us a lot when filming as we wasn’t clear of how each shot will be taken.
And when we actually when to film we had shooting schedule so it will help when we are editing and digitizing shots so we know which take was the best. In are filming the clapping board helped us a lot when we undertook editing so we knew what shot it was and the take.

The technology we used was firstly the main piece of equipment was the Camera which canon xha1 which has zoom built in microphone which helped because we had dialogue in are sequence and we didn’t have to attach the external microphones it also had a lcd screen which helped to see the framing of the shots. What I learned by using the cameras were using zoom how to zoom quickly and slowly also I learned how to connect the camera to the computer and digitize shots. The other important thing we used to produce this sequence was Premiere pro cs4 this is an editing software this was my first using it and I think I picked up really well as now when it comes using this software I will confident.

The factors we took in when planning was how long the task will take also will we finish on time as asked by the teachers. When shooting the factors we took in account was will we finish are shooting in that hour like asked will are shots will have to re-taken many times in order to get it right. And lastly when we was editing we thought about how long the each shot will we also thought as audience will it bore them or entertain them also does are sequence has narrative for audience to follow.


I don’t think are sequence was successful as while we was filming we didn’t have sound for opening shots of the sequence so the next we are going to film we definitely going to check if the microphone is working correctly and making sure we have sound and also looking at lcd screen at the channels. The other weakness of are sequence the last shot came wrong and we done 2 takes which they both were not good so we had to change the ending while we was editing. If I would do this project again I would make sure I have sound also and leave a 5second gap between each shot when filming. However the strengths we had was that it was continues it had 180 degree rule also match on action, shot reverse shot.

It has helped me to develop planning skills as we had to undertake each task and plan it carefully so we wont make no mistakes when actually filming and that we have a clear idea of what we are doing. The other important skill I developed was meeting deadlines this will also help in media but also in life were as we had to meet deadlines everyday in order to finish are work in time. My organization skills improved by this doing this task because we had to be very organized which I think we were because had to plan everything in are own time and we also had to meet up ourselves and do the work and come to class prepared and knowing that to do when we actually start filming. Creativity also improved because we had to come up with a storyline for the play and also the script which we done well all of are group had a say about different ideas and things we can do in are work. I also learned what was required in storyboard which will help me with the other task we are going to be doing later on. I improved my group work as before I didn’t really contributed that much but at the end of the task I really done a lot as an individual to help my group by supporting them with the ideas for the script and the storyboard and also helped them with the filming because I were the director filming with the camera. The other thing that I learned was technology skills by using the camera given to us before we started recording I didn’t really knew a lot about the camera and how to use it properly but now I know how to. Time management was really important In this task in order to give are selves time we produced a shooting schedule which we recorded at what time each shot will be taken which helped as a lot.

I learned a lot when editing because it was my first time using this software and also editing. What I learned while editing that it doesn’t matter what you have in your storyboard you can still make decisions and change your sequence. We had three lessons to finish editing at first I though we are not going to finish it and meet the deadline. The problems we had while editing was the computer not working properly and we couldn’t digitize are shots which wasted most of the time but it worked it took quick as I looked at the other groups while they were working. I also learned to use effects on the software.
